Custom kitchen cabinet doors

The doors are what you see every day. We build custom cabinet doors and drawer fronts to your measured openings, in the style, finish and construction that suit your kitchen.

Design

Build

A cabinet door looks simple, but it carries the whole look of a kitchen. The profile, the frame width, the finish and the gaps between doors decide whether a kitchen feels calm and well made or tired and mismatched. A door that is built well also stays flat, closes cleanly and keeps its finish for years.

The first question is whether you need doors only or a full cabinet replacement. If your boxes are straight and solid and your layout works, new doors and drawer fronts can transform the kitchen at a fraction of the cost. If the boxes are failing or the layout isn’t right, new doors on old cabinets are money spent on the wrong thing.

Most people can tell which one they need once we look at the kitchen together. We’ll inspect your cabinets at the free consultation and tell you honestly whether new doors are the right call.

Styles, Finishes and Details

Door styles: shaker is the most popular, with a five-piece frame and recessed centre panel. Flat slab suits a modern kitchen, slim shaker sits in between, and raised-panel and beaded styles suit traditional homes. Choose the style first, because it shapes every other decision.

Materials: painted MDF is our standard for painted doors, since it stays flat through Calgary’s humidity swings. Wood veneer and solid wood frames are available when you want real grain, and thermofoil and melamine suit budget-conscious projects.

Finish: doors are finished in our shop, which cures harder than anything applied on site. White, soft grey, green and navy are popular, and we can match most paint colours you bring in. Stained finishes are available for maple, oak and walnut.

Hardware: soft-close hinges and drilled-to-suit pulls and knobs are available. We can drill for any hardware you choose and recommend sizes that suit each door and drawer.

Details: glass-front doors, mullion doors, finished end panels and matching panels for appliances can all be added where they suit the design.

Sizing, openings and the things we check first

Before making anything we measure every opening, not just one or two. Old cabinets are rarely perfectly square, so we record each door and drawer individually and plan the gaps and overlays before the doors are built.

Hinge type and position matter. Existing hinges, frame style and box construction decide what new doors can be fitted, and we check them before quoting. If the boxes can’t carry the new doors properly, we’ll say so.

Your layout stays as it is, so new doors don’t fix a wasted corner, a pantry that’s too shallow or too little storage. If you want to change the layout, a full replacement is usually the better investment, and we’ll show you both options.

Moisture is worth a thought in any Calgary kitchen. Doors around the sink and dishwasher should be well sealed on every edge, and a sink base with water damage can often be repaired or replaced alongside the new doors.

If the kitchen is part of a larger renovation, planning the doors alongside new flooring, countertops and lighting generally looks better and costs less than treating them as separate projects.

FAQs

Cabinet doors, answered

It depends on the number of doors and drawer fronts, the style, the material and the finish. New doors usually cost noticeably less than a full replacement, since you keep your existing boxes. We measure for free and give you one itemised quote with nothing hidden.

Typically several weeks from approved design to installation, depending on scope and our shop schedule. Because we build locally, we’re not waiting on overseas shipments. We’ll give you a clear timeline when we quote.

Sometimes, yes. If your layout stays the same and the countertop is in good condition, we can often work around it. If cabinet depth or sink position changes, a new top is usually the better call. We’ll tell you honestly during the consultation.

If your layout works and the boxes are solid, refacing saves money and mess. If you want to change the layout, fix sagging or water-damaged boxes, or add storage, replacement is the better investment.

We coordinate with licensed trades for plumbing, gas and electrical so everything lines up on install day. We handle the cabinetry and make sure the cutouts, panels and clearances are right.

Every kitchen is backed by a written warranty. We also come back after the house settles to adjust doors and drawers at no charge.
